Hey guys,
Yesterday I got to attend the premiere of Parwaaz Hai Junoon, a Pakistani movie starring Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ahad Raza Mir, Hania Amir and Shazli Khan. I was excited to see the movie after being captivated by the soundtrack (Thaam lo is currently on repeat) and watching the trailer.
Initially I had planned on writing a simple movie review for you but once I got to the event, I changed my mind. Why was it such a special experience? First of all, the celebrities themselves were super sweet and literally took selfies with every single person in attendance. You could tell they were excited and proud to finally share their work with their fans.
But as the movie started, I think I realized that I am excited for the revival of cinema in the country because I can finally see myself represented on the big screen - in terms of language, religion, fashion, and cultural references. It is so refreshing to see Muslims as ordinary people with ordinary dreams, struggles and normal lives. It was a treat to see places in Pakistan I have visited so often captured beautifully or wedding traditions we all relate to.
The movie itself was good! The story was a beautiful tribute to the Pakistani Airforce. All of the actors did an amazing job, the music was really good and the cinematography was on point. I am not going to give away any spoilers because I donβt want to ruin it for you but have tissues ready. It made me laugh, it made me smile and it definitely made me cry! I would definitely suggest watching it!
I had a great time capturing the actual event and here are a few of my favourite shots from the afternoon:
And yes ladies, Ahad Raza Mir and Hamza Ali Abbasi are just as dreamy in person as they are on screen.
Much love,
