As most of you know, I launched my photography business, Sidra & Co Photography, and never did I imagine that in a few weeks I would be covering the Superstar team on their promotional tour in Toronto. For those of you that don’t know, Superstar is a Pakistani movie, directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin, produced by Momina & Duraid Films, starring Mahira Khan and Bilal Ashraf in lead roles.
The Pakistani movie industry is definitely in a phase of revival and it is encouraging to see the movies improving year-after-year, in terms of content, acting and cinematography. As a Pakistani, it is refreshing to see myself represented onscreen. In this particular case. what was most exciting for me is that the movie was filmed in Peshawar, my home city - it was really fun spotting so many of my favourite places!
The movie itself was a nice-light watch. I have loved Mahira Khan ever since she played Khirad in Humsafar and was so proud of her acting in the movie. This was the first time I saw Bilal Ashraf on screen and he did an amazing job! One of the main winners of the movie for me was definitely the music by Azaan Sami Khan. From “In Dinon” by Atif Aslam, “Ghalat Fehmi” by Asim Azhar and Bekaraan by Ali Sethi and Zeb Bangesh , each song is absolutely beautiful! The movie is being distributed by Digital Media Limited across Canada and is playing in theatres near you! I would definitely recommend watching it and supporting the Pakistani movie industry! .
The promotional tour was such a great experience for me personally. Mahira Khan is obviously beautiful, and so much fun to photograph, but what I loved about her and the entire team the most was how kind, humble and fun they were! The team included some of Pakistan’s biggest superstars, yet from the moment I met them at the airport to when they left, they were nothing but gracious.
